Public and bank holidays in 2026 (including Full Moon Poya days):

  • Regular full‑moon Poya days (Duruthu, Navam, Madin, Bak, Vesak, Poson, Esala, Nikini, Binara, Vap, Unduvap)
  • Tamil Thai Pongal Day
  • National Day: February 4
  • Maha Shivaratri
  • Sinhala & Tamil New Year: April 12–13
  • Labour Day (May 1)
  • Eid al‑Fitr & Eid al‑Adha - May 28 tentative
  • Deepavali Day - November 8 tentative 
  • Milad‑un‑Nabi - August 26 tentative
  • Christmas Day: December 25

Notes:


  • Poya Days follow lunar cycles and may be adjusted by government notice; dates above match the 2026 Poya calendar. All Full Moon Poya Days are officially recognized and treated as statutory non-working days for the public sector, banks, and merchants 
  • Islamic holidays (Eid al‑Fitr, Eid al‑Adha, Islamic New Year, Milad‑un‑Nabi) are listed as “tentative” pending moon sightings.
  • Good Friday, New Year, Labour Day, Christmas, Independence Day are fixed national holidays.
