How are bonuses and commissions handled in Canada?

There is no mandatory or expected 13th month salary bonus in Canada. Employers are welcome to pay certain employees based at least in part on commission, though they should ensure that the employee type is compliant with Canadian labor law.

If you wish to offer any other bonuses to your employees, you should clearly articulate the details in the employment contract. Your local PEO can help you administer any bonuses to your employees and provide guidance to help you comply with Canadian labor law rules for commission and other payments.
