What are Paid and Unpaid Leaves in Turkey?

In addition to annual leave and sick leave, employees in Turkey are entitled to various other types of leave, both paid and unpaid.

Paid Leave

  • Maternity Leave: Female employees are entitled to up to 16 weeks of maternity leave, consisting of 8 weeks before and 8 weeks after childbirth. In cases of premature or multiple births, the maternity leave extends to 18 weeks.
  • Paternity Leave: Fathers are entitled to 5 days of paid paternity leave following the birth of their child.
  • Marriage Leave: Employees are entitled to 3 days of paid leave for their marriage.
  • Bereavement Leave: In the event of the death of a close family member, employees are entitled to 2 days of paid leave.

Unpaid Leave

  • Military Leave: Male employees are entitled to up to 2 months of unpaid leave for military service. After this period, the employer has the right to terminate the employment agreement if the employee has not returned to work.

These leave entitlements ensure that employees can take time off for significant personal and family events while maintaining a fair and supportive work environment.
